Barbados Launches Mobile App For Instant Counterfeit Detection

2017-10-05 Thu

The Central Bank of Barbados recently launched a user-friendly currency application called “Barbadian Banknotes: Are Yours Real?” to combat counterfeiting.

The application can be downloaded for free from Google Play or iTunes. It provides all the information needed to authenticate Barbadian Banknotes. Bank officials stated that people need to check for authenticity as soon as they receive notes and the app acts like an instant counterfeit detection guide. Users can choose any denomination through the app to not only know the location of security features on the notes but also understand how they function.

When you select the hologram of BDS$100 note, the app will show how it changes colour. Barbados’ banknote printer, De La Rue collaborated with the central bank to develop this application. The same banknote printer has also developed the Bank of England’s currency app. Other countries like Switzerland, Pakistan and Australia have also released similar apps.

Apart from the application, the central bank also shares relevant information on their official website. People also have access to printed materials if required for free. Free training sessions are being offered to companies and groups upon request.
