Jehangir’s Gold Coin Fetches a Record Rs. 1.55 Cr

Never in the history of Indian numismatics has an Indian coin fetched such a handsome amount. Emperor Jehangir’s 400 year old, rare mohur of the Zodiac series lived up to its royal expectations.An industrialist from Mumbai who refrained from revealing his identity, made the winning bid of Rs. 1.55 crore on 3rd Feb 2016. This rare beauty is 20mm in diameter and depicts the sun sign, Scorpio. The base price for this coin was set at Rs. 80 lakh and the Todywallas Auction House fetched almost double the amount.
Apart from this beautiful Jehangir coin, a Noorjahan gold coin was sold for Rs 76 lakh, the base price for which was Rs 50 lakh. A silver coin issued by Shivaji rupee bearing a Goddess Jagdamba inscription was sold for a hammer price of Rs. 15 lakh.
