2017-09-25 Mon
The reverse design of 2019 Texas San Antonio Missions America the Beautiful quarter is inspired from the Spanish colonial cob reales which were used a lot in the colonies of North and South America. 2 reales or 2 “bits” of an 8 reales were equal to a US quarter dollar.A Spanish colonial-style cross is featured on the recommended design by CCAC. A mission bell tower, a heraldic lion, wheat and waves are featured in each quadrant. Wheat and waves are new elements which denote crops grown by the missions using water from the San Antonio River. Other inscriptions include “SAN ANTONIO MISSIONS”, “TEXAS”, “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and 2019. The obverse will depict the Washington quarter design common to all America the Beautiful Quarters. The CCAC recommended design was chosen from 15 concepts that were submitted.
