Stamps Featuring Banned Authors Showcased at Spellman Museum

An exhibit of US stamps featuring banned authors and playwrights like Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, T.S. Eliot, Jack London, James Joyce etc. were curated by The Spellman Museum of Stamps and Postal History in Weston, Mass. The exhibit will be showcased from 14th September to 6th October. It celebrates the National Banned Book Week which takes place from 24th to 30th September. The annual event celebrates “freedom to read”.Works of the authors featured on the stamps have been banned or censored in communities around the country. Some works were also banned from the mails by the United States Post Office Department. Many of these stamps are on sale at the museum gift shop.
Two other exhibits at the museum include Whale Watching on Stamps, and Celebrating the JFK Centennial on Stamps Hands-on activities and scavenger hunts are organised for children who will also get a free packet of stamps. Located at 241 Wellesley St., on the campus of Regis College, the museum is open from 12 pm to 5 pm. A different admission fee is set for different age groups.
