The Beauteous Coins of Gupta- II

The tradition of admiring and respecting our parents is followed in India since ages. There are Sanskrit Shlokas which praise mother and father.We have beautiful archaeological evidence to this. Samudragupta, the son of Chandragupta I and Kumaradevi, issued a King and a Queen Type coin for his beloved parents!
The given coin in the image is a Gold Dinar of Samudragupta. It weighs around 7.53 grams. This was issued in the memory of his parents. The obverse is portraying Chandragupta I standing with Queen Kumaradevi, king nimbate wearing a short tunic offering flower / Sinduradani to Queen Kumaradevi with his right hand, and crescent (for Chandragupta) above and legend Kumaradevi Shri to left and legend Chandra Gupta to right flanking the standard. The reverse depicts Goddess Durga seated on a lion holding cornucopia and the legend ‘Lichhavyah’ in Bramhi to commemorate the marriage alliance of Chandragupta I with the Lichhavi tribe of Nepal area.
FUN FACT: The invention of zero was done by Aryabhata during the Gupta period.
