Coins of Maitrakas of Vallabhi
2017-09-11 Mon
Maitrakas of Vallabhi was a dynasty ruling in the region of Saurashtra. Nineteen Vallabhi rulers are known to exist who ruled the region, though the coins known to us belong only to Sharva Battaraka. The Maitraka coins are found in silver, base silver, potin, and copper. The obverse of the coin depicts the bust of the ruler facing right, while the reverse has trident with a Brahmi legend around it. The trident is seen in variations though the Brahmi legend is almost same on all the coins which reads as ‘rajno mahaksatrapa parama aditya bhakta mahasamanta sri sarvva bhattarakasa’. There are other coins which have a lion on the obverse.
Mintage World has newly added some sections in the Ancient Indian Coins category. Explore the coins of Maitrakas of Vallabhi here
