Upgraded 5 Lari Banknotes Launched in Georgia

New 5 Lari banknotes were released in Georgia on 1st September. The new notes will be circulated along with the earlier version of the same notes.The earlier Lari banknote themes remain unchanged. The obverse depicts Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University building and Ivane Javakhishvili's portrait in improved relief quality and volume. The reverse depicts Niko Pirosmani's paintings "A Fisherman in a Red Shirt" and "Threshing". It also features the Coat of Arms of Georgia.
The new notes come with improved security features. It also has improved features for visually impaired people. They are made in special materials to reduce contamination and increase durability.
New 20 and 50 Lari banknotes are in circulation from 1st February 2016 and the new 100 Lari banknotes are in circulation from 1st November 2016. New 10 lari notes will be issued later.
