The 1802 Draped Bust half dime is a key early half dime. Experts earlier believed that its mintage was 13,010, but now there are some experts who state that its mintage is 3,060 only, making them rare. All of the known examples were struck from a single die pair. 32 varieties have been recently identified!A 1802 Draped Bust half dime, PCGS Good Details, Damage was sold for $39,950 by Stack’s Bowers Galleries at Baltimore Expo on 23rd June. It has a nearly full date and a better obverse than reverse, unlike other coins that are found in this type.
There are some scrapes and digs on the coin. Many highly graded 1802 half dimes also come with such impairments. Even then, this coin is a classic and highly desired among collectors The same coin was sold at Superior Galleries for $7,700 in 1995. In 1956 as well, the coin was sold only for $185.
