A Large Examining Printing Equipment press setup error was discovered on a Series 2013 $1 Federal Reserve note that was printed at the BEP’s Fort Worth, Texas, facility. Printing of the Series 2013 notes was the first project that LEPE press had taken up. It can accept both 32- and 50-subject sheets. Series 2013 $1 notes are printed on sheets of 50. Similar error notes from the same D1 sheet position could be in circulation.
The error note has a mismatch in the serial number. The third digits are not in its place, a solid green rectangle is present instead of a digit in the fourth position. Experts state that transitions in BEP equipment can cause interesting errors.
The LEPE press was made to combine four currency production processes. The machine is capable of undertaking various inspections and verifications using 20 cameras. After inspection, it prints, verifies and packages currency at a speed of 9,000 sheets per hour.
