2017-08-18 Fri
Almost 1.6 billion kronor coins worth $200 million will be scrapped in Sweden very soon. A charity organization called Change for Change is requesting people to keep looking for these coins and submitting them to create Sweden’s biggest piggy bank for needy kids. The Riksbank is looking to make smaller, lighter and nickel free coins. More and more people in Sweden are going cashless and using digital mediums for cash payments. This innovative idea by Change for Change organization can be an inspiration for other countries which are also looking to scrap their coins.
The old one, two and five krona coins need to be deposited to the banks by the end of August. Experts believe that 30-50% of the 2.6 billion outstanding kronor coins will be returned. Change for Change organization has people to collect coins on request. It is also working with companies to promote their idea before the deadline.
