Woolworths is issuing Royal Australian Mint limited edition $2 coins into their tills, leading up to Children’s Book Council of Australia Children’s Book Week. It showcases designs from the popular Australian children’s book Possum Magic. The Royal Australian Mint struck the three $ 2 coin designs with illustrations of the main character, Hush from the story. The designs stay true to the original illustrations, which also feature colourful magic dust rings.

Also, on the cards is limited edition Possum Magic Coin Collection that will be available at Woolworths and the Mint. The album features all three $2 coin designs, four different $1 coin designs and a unique 1 cent coin, specially designed by Possum Magic illustrator Julie Vivas just for this Collection.

Royal Australian Mint CEO Mr. Ross MacDiarmid said:

The Australians have thoroughly enjoyed the story of Hush and Grandma Poss for 34 years. The Royal Mint CEO, Ross MacDiarmid said he is excited to be able to immortalize the story for generations to come through this collector coin series.

Possum Magic’s author Mem Fox said his excitement was limitless and he thanked the Royal Australian Mint and Woolworths for doing this. Nothing in this world is more magical than transforming Possum Magic from a book into a collection of coins. He also added that his heart is filled with gratitude as he can’t believe that his story is being immortalized in this way.

Woolworths Program Manager Sarah De La Mare said, the universal appeal of the book, along with the story’s inclusion of truly Australian food connects with families in a unique way. We hope the release of the coin collection provides more opportunities for grandparents, parents and children alike to engage with this iconic story and perhaps even try recreating the famous dishes contained in the book.

The first $2 design is released in Woolworths and the second design released from 22nd August, and the third, following on 29th August. The limited-edition coin collection can be purchased for $15 exclusively from Woolworths supermarkets across the country and the Royal Australian Mint.
