Finest Known 1819 Overton-108 Capped Bust Half Dollar to be Auctioned

A well-preserved 1819 Capped Bust half dollar with great toning is offered at the August 2017 ANA World’s Fair of Money Rarities Night Session. Both sides have satiny, cartwheel lustre. There is rainbow iridescence on the upper obverse. It has late die state but features sharp designs. There are cracks on the reverse and usual breaks. It was made from the finest Overton-108 dies, finer than a Pogue specimen that was graded MS-64+. It is also one of the best examples of the overall 1819 issue, without considering die marriage. Only one coin has been certified finer in MS-66 by NGC. PCGS has graded one coin in MS-65+ and one in MS-66.Other rare coins offered in the same lot includes the Lord St. Oswald-Norweb 1794 Flowing Hair dollar and the 1853-O No Arrows Liberty Seated half dollar from the Garrett Collection.
