2017-07-28 Fri
A new 50p coin featuring Tom Kitten will be released in August by Royal Mint’s to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Beatrix Potter. Four coins from this series were minted in 2016, all of which were extremely popular. Looking at the success of the series, the Royal Mint decided to extend it further.Coins planned to be released this year include a new Peter Rabbit 50p, Benjamin Bunny 50p, Jeremy Fisher 50p and the Tom Kitten 50p. Tom Kitten coin will be available in standard silver and colour as well, like other coins in the series. The coin will feature a wide-eyed Tom Kitten, from the 1907 Potter book The Tale of Tom Kitten.
Designs represent the hand-painted illustrations in Beatrix Potter’s books. The reverse features the common portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Jemima Puddle-Duck 50p coin has an estimated value of £100. Mr. Jeremy Fisher 50p was sold by the Mint for £10 apiece while the cost for coloured version is £60 each. It is expected that the Tom Kitten 50p coin will also cost as much. The market value of the new coin will completely depend on its mintage limit.
