The word ‘Sawai’ means one and one-fourth, i.e., 1 1/4. Jahangir experimented with his coins, first, he increased the weight of his Rupee by 20%, which is slightly higher than the rupee standard, and these coins are known as ‘Jahangiri’. Later he increased the weight of his coins further by 5% and brought it up to 25% these are known as ‘Sawai Rupee’.

This silver ‘Sawai Rupee’ minted in minted in Agra weighs around 14.4g. On the obverse coin is inscribed as ‘Nur-al-Din Jahangir Shah Ibn Akbar Badshah’. And the reverse side of the coin is inscribed as ‘Sikka Zar Dar Shahr-i-Agra Khusru-i-Giti Panah’ With the Hijri Date 1018 written on the bottom left corner of the coin.

The very rare coin was sold for INR 55,000 at Todywalla Auction.
