Beatrix Potter Jemima Puddleduck 50p Coin in Demand
2017-07-17 Mon
Special coins were released by the Royal Mint last year to celebrate the 150th Birth Anniversary of the famous children's author Beatrix Potter. These popular 50 p coins featured Peter Rabbit, Mrs Tiggy Winkle, Jemima Puddleduck and Squirrel Nutkin. The official website had even crashed due to the unexpectedly great response. The Jemima Puddleduck coin is being sought after by collectors as only 2.1 million of them are in circulation. The Squirrel Nutkin coin is second in line, in terms of rarity with a mintage limit which is two times that of the Jemima Puddleduck coin.
Experts state that collectors find it difficult to complete the set when one of the coins has a lower mintage limit. Royal Mint in collaboration with Penguin Random House will be releasing a new series this year featuring more characters. The Jeremy Fisher coin has already been released while the Tom Kitten coin would be released on 31st July. The obverse of every coin features the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Mint officials are extremely happy about the kind of response they are getting for these new releases.
