Series 1976 $2 Error Note to be Auctioned
2017-07-11 Tue
Stack’s Bowers Galleries is offering a Series 1976 Federal Reserve error note at the U.S. paper money auction that will take place at ANA World’s Fair of Money, Denver in August. The note has different serial numbers. The serial number at the lower left of the obverse is B 59208497 A; while that on the upper right is B 59208597 A. The note was overprinted for the New York Federal Reserve Bank since it has a prefix “B”. It is also the first block of sequence since it has a suffix letter “A”.The serial numbers and Treasury seal are overprinted using green and black ink. The Federal Reserve District numbers and seal are put after the obverse and reverse are printed. The error could have occurred due to a stuck serial number wheel.
The note does not have an ‘Exceptional Paper Quality’ designation but is graded Choice Uncirculated 64 by PMG. It is estimated to fetch $500 to $700.
