In 1633, English King Charles I held a coronation in Edinburgh, eight years after he was crowned. From 27th March 1625 onwards, Charles was monarch of England, Scotland, and Ireland. He was executed in 1649. A silver medal was designed by Nicholas Briot to celebrate this big occasion. The same was sold for £3,600 in Morton & Eden’s auction that took place on 15th June in London.

The obverse features the king riding a horse holding a baton. The reverse features sun shining on London across the Thames. In inscription E (for Edinburgh) is also featured. This was the first time when London was featured on a medal. The offered coin was lightly chased and well toned.
