Princely State of Gondal

The concept of Princely state in Indian history is quite known, it was the symbol of British rule in India. Britishers considered the rulers of these states to administer their internal affairs under the influence of English Crown. There are many examples of these states and one amongst them was Gondal state.This state belongs to Kathiawar Agency in Bombay Presidency. Its royal lineage is ruled by Hindu Rajput of Jadeja clan. It was established in 1634 AD by Thakore Shri Kumbhoji I Meramanji. The ruler of this state bore the title of ‘Thakur Sahib' from 1866 AD.
The above-shown stamp was issued to celebrate the 56th anniversary of King Bhagvat Sinji rule. This stamp depicts the portrait of the king with dates according to in Sambat and Gregorian calendar system.
The instrument of accession to the Indian Union was signed by the last ruler of Gondal state, Maharaja Bhojraji Bhagwatsimji on 15th February 1948.
