2017-06-29 Thu
More than 12 billion Lincoln cents were issued in 1982 and 1983 by Denver Mint, due to which, they are not considered to be rare today. But, there are certain error cents produced during this time period that are highly sought after by collectors all over the world.A newly discovered 1982-D Small Date Lincoln cent--Struck on a Bronze Planchet (AU-58 BN NGC) and a 1983-D Lincoln cent--Struck on a Bronze Planchet (AU-55 PCGS) are being offered at the ANA Auction this August. These errors have occurred when an old bronze planchet accidentally went inside a striking press for the new copper-plated zinc planchets that were introduced at the Denver Mint in October 1982. Unlike other error coins of this time period, the bronze 1982-D Small Date and the 1983-D cents have not been found much n the last 30 years. The ANA would be offering these significant specimens for the first time publically.
Other highlights of the auction include: Lord St. Oswald-Norweb 1794 Flowing Hair dollar (MS-64 PCGS CAC), 1853-O No Arrows Liberty Seated half dollar (VF-35 PCGS) etc.
