There have been reports that fake versions of the latest Norwegian banknotes are being circulated. More than 20 fake 50 krone notes and five or six fake 200 krone notes have been found. The fake 50 krone note had the old design, while the fake 200 krone ones featured the latest design.

The reverse of the new 200 krone note depicts a cod. A funny promotional video stating about the note's security features was also officially released by the Central Bank. Three criminals have been arrested for circulating these fake notes. There have been reports of counterfeit notes being used for transactions in areas like Tonsberg, Natteroy and Tjøme. Police are still investigating about the origin of these fake notes.
