VF 1803 Draped Bust Cent Sold For $70,500

Ira and Larry Goldberg sold an 1803 Draped Bust, Large Date, Small Fraction cent, S-264, graded Very Fine 25 for $70,500 at the pre-Long Beach auction between 4th and 7th June. It is one of the finest known coins of this particular variety.This cent was circulated moderately and has been in the collectors market for the last 20 years. In September 2009, it was sold for $25,300. It was offered after that by Ira and Larry Goldberg this time. Considering the last bid, $70,500 was an impressive one.
The coin features smooth surfaces appear smooth. When observed through a lens, fine granularity can be seen on the planchet, and stronger in the fields on the reverse. There is no verdigris, the date is bold and the legends are clear.
