Historic Olympic Medals offered by RR Auctions

A 1916 Berlin Summer Olympics Trials Winner’s bronze medal and a 1936 Berlin Summer Olympics Participation bronze medal are some of the highlights offered by RR Auction’s online sale that will go on until 20th July.The official 1916 was cancelled due to World War I. The 50-millimeter bronze 1916 medal was issued for the German Olympic Trials. The obverse features Germany’s Kaiser Wilhelm II. The reverse has a German inscription which translates to THE WINNER IN THE OLYMPIC TRIAL CONTEST, with THE GERMAN COMMITTEE FOR THE OLYMPIC GAMES.
The obverse of the 70 millimeters 1936 Berlin Olympics bronze participation medal features five athletes representing the five continents, pulling the ropes of the Olympic bell. The bell is reverse embossed with the German eagle holding the Olympic rings. The outer edge reads Placzek’s name.
