Ireland’s first ever commemorative coin issued!
2016-01-21 Thu
Ireland finally opens its account of issuing its first commemorative coin. Worth 2, this Easter Rising coin was designed by Emmet Mullins which marks the centenary of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic. The obverse of the coin features a representation of the statue of Hibernia perched atop the Dublin GPO. The centenary dates and ‘HIBERNIA’ are inscribed in hand-rendered lettering on the coin. Hibernia is the historic personification of Ireland. The reverse is the same as that on other 2 coins.
The coins will be released into circulation through banks, An Post, and cash-in-transit companies. Being the first of its kind, this one can be considered as one of the most significant coins of the world.
