Canada would be celebrating its 150th anniversary on 1st July and the Royal Canadian Mint has already released special commemorative coins celebrating the occasion. These coins will become a memorabilia in the years to come when the country’s citizens look back at this momentous event. A national contest was held to select the designs which were released last November.

The new coins include a 5-cent - Living Traditions coin, a 10-cent - Wings of Peace coin, a 25-cent Hope for a Green Future coin, a One-dollar Connecting a Nation coin and a two-dollar Dance of the Spirits coin. Some of the 25-cent and two-dollar coins are coloured. The two-dollar coin is the world's first coloured bimetallic coin and the first circulation coin to feature glow-in-the-dark technology.
