New Finnish Stamps Remember President Mauno Koivisto

On 24th May, Finland announced that it is going to release special stamps remembering the ninth president of Finland (1982-94), Koivisto who died on 12th May at age 93. The stamps featuring a portrait of President Koivisto on a blue background will be released on 9th June. Other elements on the stamp include a signature of the President, an outline image of the Grand Cross, with collar, of the Order of the White Rose of Finland, worn by Finnish presidents, Koivisto’s name and the years of his birth and death (1923-2017).The nondenominated stamp features the map of Finland, letter “E” for the basic rate to European countries. The stamps were designed by Timo Berry using photographs by Kari Santala. 1 million stamps are being sold in panes of 10.
Koivisto has also been depicted on a 1.30-mark commemorative issued on 25th November 1983, to celebrate his 60th birthday, and a 2.30m stamp issued in 1993 on his 70th birthday.
