This gold mohur was issued by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb during the 2nd year of his reign.

Emperor Aurangzeb was the 6th Mughal emperor of India. He was the last of the most powerful and great sovereigns of the Mughal crown. During his rule, the Mughal Empire reached its highest point.

Aurangzeb issued coins in gold, silver, and copper.

This gold mohur of ‘Badr-i-Munir’ type was minted at ‘Bandar-i-Mubarak’ Surat. The meaning of the word ‘Bandar-i-Mubarak is ‘Auspicious Port’. The obverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Sikka Zad Dar Jahan Chu Badr-i-Munir Badshah Aurangzeb Alamgir’. And the reverse of the coin is inscribed with ‘Julus Formula, RY and Mint Name with Mint epithet Bandar-i-Mubarak. Hijri date on the coin is not clearly visible.

This very rare gold mohur was sold for INR 2, 50,000 at Todywalla Auction.
