The Royal Canadian Mint is going to release ultra-high relief Proof 2017 Dragon Boat Festival .999 fine silver $25 coin. The coin celebrates the true spirit of ancient traditions observed by Chinese-Canadians and one of the most exciting competitive sports.

The reverse is selectively coloured in red, gold, green and blue and is a fusion of traditional art elements and modern minting techniques. It is struck multiple times to raise the waves and dragon’s head from the coin’s flat surface.

The coin also has foam-tipped waves creating an illusion of motion. Curved lines on the design beautifully portray wind and movement. The dragon holds a blue pearl in its jaw indicating wisdom. The yang aspect of qi is the life force that exists around us. The reverse also features the year 2017.

The obverse features the Susanna Blunt portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The coin can be purchased for $139.95 Canadian.
