The Cherry Blossom Globe was presented during the Tokyo International Coin Convention in April 2017. The Cherry Blossom Festival that happens in Hanami has become popular outside of Japan too. During this festival, people visit parks for “flower viewing” between March and April. This 8-century-old tradition celebrates the beginning of spring and the blossoming of the cherry trees. Cherry blossoms are also a symbol of feminine grace and beauty in Japan.
Every glass sphere from Vienna Snow Globes is handmade and filled with pure Alpine water. The inventor of the snow globe, Erwin Perzy (1876-1964) used a water-filled bowl and added semolina for light reflexion while performing another experiment.
