Postage Stamps Honouring Police Officers
2017-05-26 Fri
A postage stamp could be released soon to honour the fallen law enforcement officers. This was possible majorly because of the efforts of Congressman Jerry McNerney. There have been reports that 135 police officers were killed while serving their duty last year. In the last 10 years, the number has increased to 1,500.The motive is to raise money for their families using the proceeds from the sales. McNerney believes that the program is necessary to create awareness about the sacrifice of these men and women. He also said that over $87 million has been raised through the release of postage stamps for breast cancer research and saving endangered species. A letter endorsed by many police officer organisations has been sent to the Postmaster General asking for the release of these special stamps.
