Rare MS 64 1889-CC Morgan Dollar from Carson City Mint to be Auctioned
2017-05-22 Mon
Heritage Auctions is going to offer some rare Morgan silver dollars in June at the Long Beach sale. One of the highlights includes an MS 64 1889-CC Morgan dollar struck at the Carson City Mint. The mint had a lull period between 1885 and 1889 when the production was on hold. Mintage was limited to 350,000. The 1889-CC coin from Carson City Mint is very rare and MS-64 examples are even rarer. Only 43 such coins exist today. A similar coin was sold for $70,500 by Heritage auction in 2014.General Services Administration had sold some coins in the 1970s, but the coin hoard did not have 1889-CC issues. Ever since then, the coin’s rarity increased which then led to the rise in its price. Other coins like the MS 61 1893-S Morgan dollar with grey, lavender and golden-brown toning, an 1895 Morgan dollar, graded 64+ Cameo etc. will also be offered at the event.
