Hong Kong‘s “most important” stamp is going to be sold auctioned locally on January 17 and is estimated to be HK$7-8 million (US$ 900,000-1,000,000). The 1865 96c olive-bistre block of four stamps is the most peculiar stamp of Hong Kong. Only forty eight unused examples of the stamp have been recorded. The Stamp was released by the Hong Kong Post Office in Jan 1865, and was withdrawn when the correct brownish grey stamps arrived in late July or August same year. The image of Queen Victoria featured on the stamp was based on sketches made by Sir Hercules G. R. Robinson, governor of Hong Kong. The estimated price of the auction is HK$7 – 8 millions!
