The 2017 Distinguished Topical Philatelist award will be given to Vera Felts by the American Topical Association on June 24th at the Crowne Plaza Milwaukee Airport, Milwaukee, Wis. This annual award program began in 1952. Felts contributed immensely in the field of philately and has been ATA’s executive director since 2009. She headed a program that increased ATA memberships and also updated a new topical checklist database.

In 1999, she founded a youth stamp club at the Science Center in Carbondale, Ill. She was an editor at Southern Illinois Stamp Club for 15 years and cofounded the Sirpex local show. She looked after the American Philatelic Society newsletter exchange for eight years.
