The World Malaria Day is celebrated every year on 25th April. Established in May 2017, it is a commemorative day initiated by Africa for the prevention and final destruction of malaria.

India Post issued this commemorative stamp on 7th April 1962 promoting world efforts against Malaria. Printed by India Security Press, Nasik it has a face value of 15 Naya Paisa.

Roughly 627,000 people died of malaria in 2012. Africans are affected the most followed by Asians, Latin Americans, and to a lesser extent the Middle East and parts of Europe. World Malaria Day is one of the eight official global public health campaigns marked by the WHO.

The theme for 2017 is “End Malaria for Good”.

Many other countries like France, Sri Lanka, United Kingdom, United States, etc have issued stamps in a war against malaria. Besides this Nigeria has also issued a coin with the theme of “Stop Malaria”.
