A commemorative polymer $10 bank note celebrating Canada’s 150th Anniversary was released officially on 7th April at the Bank of Canada’s head office in Ottawa. This one would be the fourth commemorative note in Canada’s history. The banknote celebrates the natural beauty along with important parliamentarians of Canada like Sir John A. Macdonald, Sir George-Étienne Cartier, Agnes Macphail, and James Gladstone. The Parliament’s Hall of Honour is featured in the background.
40 million 150 $10 notes would be circulated on 1st June. Other elements include the artwork Owl’s Bouquet by Inuit artist Kenojuak Ashevak with the borders featuring an arrow sash pattern, a symbol of the Metis nation.
The reverse depicts The Lions/Twin Sisters of Western Canada, a wheat field of the Prairie provinces, the Canadian Shield representing central Canada, Cape Bonavista in eastern Canada, and the Northern Lights in northern Canada.
Security features include a colour-shifting image of an arch of the Memorial Chamber on Parliament Hill and three-dimensional maple leaves. The current polymer $10 note would also continue to be in circulation.
