Rare 1860 Vancouver Island to Be Auctioned

2017-04-22 Sat

A rare 1860 dull-rose coloured Vancouver Island, issued when the island was a part of a British North America Crown colony has an estimated value of $15,000 at Daniel F. Kelleher Auctions in the U.S.. It was the first one issued on the colony. It was issued without "perfs” unlike the second stamp issued here.

The island colony merged with the mainland to form the British Columbia in 1866. Almost 20 stamps were issued by the colony till date. The ones issued earlier are fewer and hence more expensive. This first issue stamp is extremely rare.

The same stamp was earlier auctioned for $25,000 and the decline in its value is because of the declining interest in the hobby.
