Shah Alam Bahadur Shah I was a Mughal ruler from 1707 AD until his death 1712 AD. He was the third son of Aurangzeb. His real name was Muazzam. He took the title Bahadur Shah I after assuming the throne of Delhi. After the death of Aurangzeb his brother Muhammad Kam Bakhsh declared himself as the ruler of Delhi, but after defeating his brother in the Battle of Jajau; he ascended the Mughal throne in the year 1707 AD with the title Bahadur Shah I.

He issued the coins in gold, silver, and copper. He also issued coins with his pre-accession name Muazzam; however, these coins are very rare.

This silver Nazarana rupee, which weighs around 11.5g, minted in Azimabad during the first year of his reign was sold for INR 1, 62,000 at Rajgor’s Auction. The obverse of the coin reads as ‘Sikka Badshah Ghazi Shah Alam’ in three lines with the Hijri year 1119 at the bottom. The reverse of the coin reads as ‘Azimabad julus sanah’ with regnal year Ahad. Legends on both the sides are written within Stylish borders.
