Coin Invest Trust released special Proof .999 fine silver dollar and a Brilliant Uncirculated .9999 fine gold dollar featuring the sea urchin, commonly known as a sand dollar for Palau on 7th March. The skeleton of a certain type of sea urchin is known as a sand dollar. The coin includes impressions of the holes that help the animal stay on the sandy bottom.

Other inscriptions on the obverse include REPUBLIC OF PALAU, 2017, $1, and SAND DOLLAR. The gold coin's obverse features a canoeist and a canoe above the shield of Palau. The silver coin’s obverse features an underwater scene of a mermaid and dolphins.

The convex reverse is like a skeleton of the sea urchin or the surface of a sand dollar. Five lunules are depicted on the concave obverse of the gold coins. The sea urchin looks like old Spanish and American silver dollar coins, which is why they are called as a sand dollar.

“Smartminting” and “Big Gold Minting” techniques are implemented to achieve high relief without requiring extra metal. The mintage limit of the 31.1 gms silver coin and the 1 gm gold coin is 2,017 pieces each.
