East Germany Stamps in Demand

2017-03-24 Fri

Certain East German stamps issues of the 1950s are in high demand. Economic and industrial activity was controlled by the state in East Germany. Two series of 84 non-denominated Official stamps each were issued in 1964 for the Associations of Public Owned Operations.

The stamp features the East German crest made of a compass, hammer, and heads of rye; the inscription “DDR ZKD” and a short form for the enterprise by which they were used. Individual stamps in mint never-hinged condition have a market value of €35 to €40. Stamps in used condition are rarer and more costly. A mint never-hinged complete set of the first series was recently sold for $999 against an expected value of €2,800. Complete sets are in more demand.
