“Honey” Wins Innovative Design Competition

Bank of Latvia awarded designer Arturs Analts for winning the first prize in a competition for designing an innovative euro collector coin. His design concept is called “Honey” and the Bank wil try including this idea into a coin by using the proposed materials.The winning design was selected from 42 works that were submitted through the open competition. The design concept "H2OABC" by Marcis Kalnins won the second price and "Gold Values" by artist Arturs Senfelds won the third place. The first prize was worth EUR 2,500, the second prize was worth EUR 1,500 and the third prize was worth EUR 1,000.
There have been other beautiful outcomes of earlier competitions held by Bank of Latvia like the international award-winning button-shaped coin under “Millenium” and the last lats collector coin "365”, Marcis Kalnins' design concept "Z134M" or "The Earth" made of perlucor and silver etc. Bank of Latvia has been developing a collector coin program for more than 20 years focussing on the historical, cultural and emotional values of the country in an artistic, technical or thematic way.
