Banknotes Made of Silver!

2016-03-03 Thu

There are some banknotes that are made of precious metals. These collector’s objects do not have a nominal value on most occasions. But, Coin Invest Trust (CIT) issued the first real legal tender silver note which many collectors are excited about. The obverse of the Cook Islands banknotes feature Queen Elizabeth II as the certificate of authenticity, the nominal value, 1 Dollar, silver content, weight, mintage, size, and year of issue.

The coloured reverse depicts the skylines of New York City, Sydney, London, Toronto and Hong Kong on each of the five notes released in the series. The note is made of 5 grams of silver, is 150 mm by 70 mm in size and 0.045 mm thin. The notes are manufactured at Munich-based mint B. H. Mayer’s Kunstprägeanstalt. CIT were the pioneers in combining metal value and legal tender with this new series.
