MS-61 BN is the highest grade offered to a coin belonging to this particular type. The surfaces are medium brown, lustrous, and with a hint of friction on the highest parts. The coin is the most famous date in the series when numismatics became a popular hobby in the 1850s. Almost 900 to 1,100 1799 cents are known, most of them are worn and not in impressive grades. Properly graded VG, Fine, and VF coins are very costly. This particular coin offered at the auction is a beauty and has been passed on from several owners before reaching here.
