2017-02-23 Thu

Swiss Mint celebrates the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation with a 2017 non-circulating, legal-tender .835 fine silver 20-franc coin featuring two leaders, Ulrich Zwingli and John Calvin who were responsible for the Reformation. It all began in Wittenberg 500 years which led to cultural, social and political changes whose impact has been prevalent even today. Two leaders Ulrich Zwingli and John Calvin played a vital role in changing the face of modern age, democracy, and human rights.

The mint has clarified that it is not a celebration of Martin Luther’s thesis but more about the Reformation as a movement which has impacted our lives even today. The obverse features Zwingli and Calvin and the reverse features an inscription announcing the anniversary, denomination, year and country of issue, and the Swiss cross.

The 20 grams coin is available in Uncirculated and Proof versions. The Uncirculated version has a mintage limit of 30,000 pieces and that of the proof coins is 5,000. All coins come in a special presentation case with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
