On 21st February, The Reserve Bank of Australia revealed the design of the new $10 banknote that will be issued from September 2017. Two famous Australian writers, Dame Mary Gilmore and AB ‘Banjo’ Paterson are celebrated on the new note. The note also features elements like images of a pen nib and excerpts of poetry written by the two writers in microprint. The Signature side features AB ‘Banjo’ Paterson and the Numeral side features Dame Mary Gilmore.
Security features like the top-to-bottom clear window and the patch with a rolling colour effect have been included. The $10 banknote features the Bramble Wattle and the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo as per the theme for the series.
Efforts are being made to ensure that machines that take or dispense banknotes can read the new notes. The notes will be issued in September but will be widely circulated after few months.
