We all have been part of Scouts and Guides in school days! We know that scouting is a movement that aims to support young people in their physical, mental and spiritual development, that they may play constructive roles in society, with a strong focus on the outdoors and survival skills.
Common ways to implement the Scout method include having Scouts spend time together in small groups with shared experiences, rituals, and activities, and emphasizing good citizenship and decision-making by young people in an age-appropriate manner. Cultivating a love and appreciation of the outdoors and outdoor activities is a key element. Primary activities include camping, woodcraft, aquatics, hiking, backpacking, and sports.
Do you know who is the founder of Scout and Guide is?
It was founded by Robert Baden-Powell. He was born on 22nd February 1857 and this day is celebrated as Thinking Day.
In India after many efforts The Bharat Scouts and Guides (BSG) was founded by Indian Government in 1909. Scouts and Guide was legally accepted under the constitution on 7th March 2001 and soon it spread all over India. The BSG serves 2,886,460 Scouts and 1,286,161 Guides!
Indian Schools are playing active role in encouraging Scouts and Guides among young boys and girls. Most of all the schools are having this it as a subject, were students actively participate in various activities which help them to cope up different situations. We are sure that you might be having at least one memory as such from your old school days!
All over the world today’s day is cherished by issuing stamps on Scouts and Guides. Countries like China, Africa, India, Pakistan, Australia, Colombia, Phillipines, etc have issued stamps on it. India Post issued a stamp on celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of Girl Guide Movement. The stamp was issued in 1970 depicting a girl facing left in a Girl Guide uniform of 20 Paisa. The logo is seen on the top and bottom of the right and the three figure salute is seen on the centre. Do you know what this salute stands for?
The three-finger salute is used by members of Scout and Guide organizations around the world when greeting other Scouts and in respect of a national flag at ceremonies. In most situations, the salute is made with the right hand, palm face out, the thumb holding down the little finger, and with the fingertips on the brow of the head.
