New Series NIS 20 and 100 Israeli Banknotes
2016-02-11 Thu
The new Israeli NIS 50 banknote was released in September 2014 and almost 90 percent of the old notes have been replaced. After the launch of the new NIS 200 banknote in December 2015, more than half of the older notes of the same denomination have been replaced.Replacement of the NIS 200 Series B banknotes in circulation will be ended when the two remaining denominations, of Series C, are launched at the end of 2017. Vending machines and ATM's will have to be recalibrated before the two remaining denominations are launched.
Early samples of the banknotes issued in December 2016 were provided to manufacturers, providers and operators of vending, counting and sorting machines for the smooth transition.
Counterfeiters are taking undue advantage of the lack of knowledge about the security features among the common public. The Bank of Israel is taking measures to address this issue by informing the general masses about the various features of the new banknotes. Release date and other details about the two remaining denominations will be shared soon.
