Solomon Islands to Release New $20 Notes

On 23rd January, Solomon Islands officials announced the release of a new $20 note. Before this, new $50 and $100 notes from the same series were released in 2013. The series was introduced to improve durability and to curb counterfeiting.

The purple banknote has a colour-shifting red and green security thread. The obverse features an abstract geometric design which according to officials, represents the movement of shoals of fish. The reverse features natives in their traditional attire dancing and playing a local wind instrument panpipe.

Solomon Islands became independent from the United Kingdom in 1978. Del La Rue, their printing company partner would be celebrating the 100th anniversary of their relationship with the nation’s central bank.
