The 200th anniversary of the Royal Mint’s modern gold Sovereign is celebrated with the release of the 2017 Sovereign Collection, the first of which is the 2017 22 carat Gold Bullion Sovereign Coin. The Sovereign has been an integral and trusted part of the British coinage ever since it was introduced 200 years ago.

It features the famous St. George and the Dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci which first appeared in 1817. The new shield mint mark commemorates the 200-year anniversary. The observe features Jody Clark’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The edge of the coin is reeded.
