Double-struck 1976 Kennedy Half Dollar Sold for $2,232.5

Heritage’s auctions offered a Blue Angel Collection of 36 error coins including 1976 Bicentennial Washington quarter dollars, Kennedy half dollars and Bicentennial dollars at the 2017 Florida United Numismatists convention in Fort Lauderdale. Struck in 1975 and 1976, the coins feature a dual-date of 1776-1976.The 1976 Kennedy, Bicentennial half dollar, double struck, Mint State 66 was sold for $2,232.50 on 9th January. The coin was shifted towards the 12 o’clock position with respect to the obverse after the first strike. The bottom half designs feature two partial portraits of the president and the Independence Hall.
Even though the date is not clearly visible, the coin’s Bicentennial reverse design says that the coin was struck in 1976. A PCGS Proof 63 1976-S Kennedy error half dollar coin struck on a Jefferson 5-cent planchet was sold for $4,465.
