Officials of Prasetio, Indonesia’s paper and banknote printing company said that the BI logo on the banknotes feature two merged images to prevent counterfeiting. The general public was not happy with the new design but the company stated that it is a security feature and has asked the public to stop making negative interpretations.
Some organisations and leaders were also making inciting comments about the new banknotes. Some leaders complained using public speeches that the logo resembled a symbol of the non-functioning Indonesian Communist Party (PKI). Investigations are being carried out by the police against these leaders.
