Special posters were created by artists in 1910s to support the war efforts in Australia. These are depicted on a series of coins issued by the Perth Mint which began in 2014. The latest Proof 2017 Proof silver $1 silver dollar is the fourth in the series and features a poster created in 1916 by the Young Men’s Christian Association. The Snapshots from Home League of Australia was established by YMCA which sent pictures of loved ones at home to soldiers in hospitals and on the front lines in Europe and the Middle East.
The poster on the coin features a group of Australian soldiers in a French village sharing photographs they received through the program. The obverse features the common portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination, and the 2017 year-date.
The 1-ounce .999 fine silver dollar has a mintage limit of 5,000 pieces and costs $99 Australian each. The coin comes in a special packaging along with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
